Urgently carry out construction to put berths 5 and 6 of Hai Phong International Gateway Port into operation before the first quarter of 2025

On the morning of September 23, 2024, a delegation of APMoller Maersk Group led by Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla - Chairman of APMoller Holding Group (APM Holding) and Chairman of Maersk - a member of APM Holding, visited and worked at Hateco Group.

Construction units are speeding up the construction progress of berths 5 and 6 of Hai Phong International Gateway Port in Lach Huyen.

These are the two largest ports of Hai Phong International Gateway Port, invested by Hateco Group with a total investment of nearly 9,000 billion VND.

General Director of Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port Co., Ltd. Nguyen Van Tien said: The project started construction in July 2022. Up to now, items such as design, foundation construction, yard and bridge construction have been ensured on schedule.

Head of Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, together with the investor and construction unit, assessed the project progress.

The investor and contractors are making efforts to speed up construction progress, striving to complete this national key project and put it into operation before the first quarter of 2025.

When completed, with a length of 450m each, these will be the two largest ports in the region, capable of receiving container ships with a capacity of 18,000 to 20,000 Teus to safely dock and load cargo.

When completed, berths 5 and 6 will be the two most modern and largest ports in the region.

Thus, these terminals are not only qualified to receive large container ships sailing to North America, but also ensure the ability to receive large container ships sailing to Europe.

At the same time, the port's two barge berths, each 200m long, can receive ships with a capacity of 160 Teus.

Along with that, Hateco Group plans to build these two ports into the most modern container ports and the largest smart ports in Vietnam.

Construction units are trying to speed up the project progress.

Currently, the contractors have completed 68% of the leveling and landfill work; nearly 80% of the temporary dike construction; nearly 63% of the sand pumping and landfill work to an elevation of +3.6m, and is expected to be completed in June 2023.

The works: geological survey drilling, temporary wharf construction, CDM & RAS test pile construction have been completed. Mass pile construction will be carried out at the end of March and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Solve difficulties and problems right at the construction site.

After inspecting the site, Head of Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board Le Trung Kien discussed and directly resolved some problems of the project to speed up the construction progress.

These include issues related to temporary power supply for construction; stable power grid serving port operations after completion; temporary roads serving project construction...

The Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board also acknowledged the opinions of businesses and requested that competent authorities soon implement the construction of a traffic route after the port for the entire seaport system in the region to promote efficiency when the ports are put into operation.
