Long Bien dry port has just been put into operation, how "huge" is its capacity?
Hateco Logistics Joint Stock Company has just completed the procedures, officially putting Long Bien inland container depot (ICD) into operation, becoming an extension of the system of seaports, airports, and road border gates from North to South.
According to the announced decision, ICD Long Bien is located at No. 1 Huynh Tan Phat Street, Sai Dong B Industrial Park (Thach Ban Ward, Long Bien District, Hanoi) invested by Hateco Logistics Joint Stock Company. The operating period of ICD Long Bien is until 2025 or until Co Bi, Phu Dong dry port is completed and put into operation.
ICD Long Bien is considered to have a favorable location, about 100km from Hai Phong port, 122km from Lach Huyen port, 26km from Noi Bai international airport, 126km from the Chinese border, ... This dry port is built on an area of 120,000m2, with an operating capacity of 135,000 TEUs, fully integrated with functions: customs clearance of goods, domestic and international freight forwarding, destination port delivery, storage and distribution of container shells, storage and preservation of refrigerated containers, ...
On May 25, 2020, ICD Long Bien was recognized by the Ministry of Finance under Decision No. 769/QD-BTC as a location for customs procedures at the port of export and import of goods established inland.
Previously, in the document approving the policy of adding ICD Long Bien to the detailed planning for the development of Vietnam's dry port system until 2020, with a vision to 2030, the Ministry of Transport said that in Decision No. 2072/2018 of the Prime Minister approving the master plan for Vietnam's dry port system, the Southeast Hanoi economic zone is planned to have a cargo handling capacity of 350,000 - 900,000 Teus/year by 2020, an area of 80 - 90 hectares, and by 2030, a cargo handling capacity of 1.1 - 2 million Teus/year, an area of 120 - 150 hectares.
According to Decision No. 1201/2018 of the Ministry of Transport approving the detailed planning of Vietnam's dry port system for the period up to 2020, with a vision to 2030, the Southeast Hanoi economic zone plays a role in serving goods of the provinces/cities: Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan with a throughput capacity of about 522,800 - 874,500 Teus/year in the period 2020 - 2025; by 2030, the total throughput capacity will be from nearly 1.62 million to more than 2 million Teus/year, including Co Bi ICD and Phu Dong ICD.
However, currently, the Southeast Hanoi economic zone only has Tan Cang Hai Phong ICD and Dinh Vu - Quang Binh ICD in operation with cargo throughput capacities of 71,400 - 214,000 Teus/year and 71,400 - 142,000 Teus/year, respectively.
Co Bi dry port is still in the process of site clearance and completing design documents for above-ground items. Phu Dong dry port is in the planning research stage and still has to handle and remove difficulties related to flood prevention planning, and will be completed and put into use by 2023 at the earliest.
Therefore, to meet the demand for regional cargo clearance, the Ministry of Transport approved the policy of adding Long Bien ICD to the detailed planning for the development of Vietnam's dry port system until 2020, with a vision to 2030.
Up to now, Vietnam has 9 dry ports and 16 cargo clearance points (functioning as dry ports). Of which, the Northern region has 8 ICDs, 7 inland clearance points, including: ICD Phuc Loc - Ninh Binh; ICD Km3+4 Mong Cai, Quang Ninh; ICD Hai Linh, Phu Tho; ICD Tan Cang Hai Phong; ICD Dinh Vu - Quang Binh, Hai Phong; ICD Hoang Thanh, Hanoi, ICD Tan Cang Ha Nam and ICD Long Bien. The Southern region has 1 ICD and 9 inland clearance points. The Central region has no ICDs yet.
