HHIT REVIEWS SEMI-ANNUAL PERFORMANCE, DEPLOYS KEY TASKS FOR THE SECOND HALF OF 2026
On 14 July 2026, Hateco Haiphong International Container Terminal (HHIT) held its 2026 Mid-Year Business Performance Review Conference to evaluate operational results for the first six months of the year and outline key priorities for the remainder of 2026. The conference was attended by Mr. Tran Van Ky, Chairman of Hateco Group; members of the Board of Directors and the terminal's Executive Management; representatives of strategic shareholder APM Terminals; department heads; and all HHIT employees.
Overview of the 2026 Mid-Year Business Performance Review Conference on Business and Production Performance and Key Tasks Deployment for the Second Half of 2026.
A Landmark in Governance Transformation and International-Standard Terminal Operations
In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, CEO of HHIT, noted that despite continued uncertainties in the global maritime and logistics industry, HHIT has maintained strong growth momentum. During the first six months of 2026, HHIT delivered strong business performance, handling nearly 450,000 TEUs, representing a 48% increase compared with the same period last year. The terminal welcomed 151 vessel calls, up 45% year-on-year, including the arrival of MATZ MAERSK, a Triple-E class container vessel measuring 400 metres LOA with a deadweight of 214,000 DWT. The vessel is the largest container vessel ever to call at a seaport in Northern Vietnam, further demonstrating HHIT’s capability to accommodate ultra-large container vessels and reinforcing the growing strategic importance of the Lach Huyen Deep-Sea Port in the global maritime network.

Alongside volume growth, HHIT recorded positive developments in terminal operations. Berth and yard performance improved through the optimization of equipment deployment, standardization of coordination workflows, and enhanced infrastructure utilization. At the gate area, over 225,000 truck turns were processed, with truck turnaround times significantly reduced from 26.7 minutes to 14 minutes. This improvement shortened waiting times, lowered logistics costs, and enhanced the overall service experience for customers.
Another notable achievement was the complete electrification of the Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) crane fleet. This solution enabled HHIT to save approximately USD 250,000 in just five months, while reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and realizing green port development objectives in line with the strategic shareholders' vision.
Beyond operational achievements, HHIT continued to strengthen its sustainable development foundation by cultivating a robust Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) culture, establishing it as a core value in all business and production activities.
Mr. Vu Hoang Gia - Head of the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Department.
According to Mr. Vu Hoang Gia, Head of the HSSE Department, the safety mindset at HHIT is undergoing a fundamental transformation. The objective of safety management is no longer limited to accident prevention or incident mitigation. Instead, the focus is on creating a safer, more efficient work environment where employees can work with peace of mind and maximize their potential. At HHIT, safety is not merely a system of regulations or control procedures; it is progressively becoming a cultural value driven by individual awareness, responsibility, and proactivity in daily tasks. This approach serves as the cornerstone for sustainable growth, human resource quality improvement, and stable terminal operations.
From a commercial perspective, Mr. Pham Hong Minh, CCO, emphasized that HHIT is evolving from a traditional service provider into a long-term value creation partner for its customers. In addition to strengthening its partnership with Maersk, the terminal has expanded cooperation with leading global shipping lines, including MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, Evergreen, COSCO, and OOCL, while introducing new service routes to enhance global connectivity and strengthen HHIT's competitive position.
Mr. Pham Hong Minh, CCO, delivering his remarks at the conference.
One of the most prominent highlights of HHIT's performance in the first half of 2026 was the official launch of the Lean Transformation Program, aligned with the management standards of strategic shareholder APM Terminals. This initiative is not merely an improvement project but a significant shift in corporate governance, aiming to build a lean operating model, standardize processes, and execute management based on data.
Mr. Karl Gnonlonfin, Operations Director/COO, delivering his remarks at the conference.
According to Mr. Karl Gnonlonfin, Lean is not a project with a defined beginning and end, but rather a management philosophy and a journey of continuous improvement. In the first half of the year, HHIT established a Lean Roadmap for the 2026 - 2028 period, formed a dedicated Lean Lead team, trained Lean Champions, and progressively integrated modern management tools such as SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost), Daily Management, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), shift handover procedures, and cross-departmental coordination mechanisms into daily operations.
The core of Lean lies not in adding management procedures, but in transforming the working mindset of the entire organization. Instead of relying on experience-based management, HHIT is building a culture driven by data, process standardization, and continuous improvement. Every employee is encouraged to proactively identify issues, propose solutions, and view improvement as part of their daily work. This serves as the foundation for HHIT to align with the operational standards of modern container terminals globally, enhancing its competitiveness and generating sustainable growth momentum for the coming years.
Synchronizing Solutions, Accelerating to Complete 2026 Targets
Entering the second half of the year, HHIT aims to complete its 2026 business plan with a throughput target of over 1 million TEUs, asserting its position as one of the fastest-growing deep-water container terminals in Northern Vietnam. To realize this goal, the company will focus on maximizing the utilization efficiency of invested infrastructure, equipment, and resources, while enhancing governance capacity and service quality to increase market competitiveness.
HHIT will continue to expand its market presence, strengthen cooperation with international shipping lines, strive to attract 1–2 new service routes, and finalize its commercial strategy for the next phase. In terms of operations, the company will accelerate Lean implementation, complete the Quality Control Circle (QCC) processes, apply OEE in equipment management, and aim to increase crane productivity to 30 CMPH (Crane Moves Per Hour), targeting 32 moves/hour, thereby optimizing operational efficiency and enhancing service delivery.
In parallel, HHIT will continue to standardize its governance system, develop the Lean Champions team, improve the quality of human resources, and maintain strict HSSE standards, establishing a solid foundation for sustainable growth and realizing the goal of a modern, international-standard container terminal.
Chairman of Hateco Group Tran Van Ky.
In his directing speech at the conference, Mr. Tran Van Ky, Chairman of Hateco Group, acknowledged and commended the dedication and outstanding efforts of the Management Board and the entire collective of HHIT employees amidst ongoing market fluctuations. The Chairman evaluated that the achievements in the first half of the year reflected the proactive spirit and determination of the HHIT team, establishing a critical foundation for the enterprise to enter its acceleration phase in the final months of the year.
The Chairman requested the Executive Management team to focus on deploying synchronized market development solutions, enhancing infrastructure utilization, and optimizing equipment capacity. At the same time, the company must drive the application of modern management models, develop high-quality human resources, and build a team capable of meeting development requirements in the new era. The Chairman emphasized that strategic goals can only be achieved when every employee upholds responsibility, continuously innovates, proactively learns, and works toward a shared objective. This is the foundation for HHIT to build a professional, modern organization capable of competing with leading container terminals in the region.
Closing the conference, HHIT's Leadership unified their determination to innovate mindsets, improve governance capacity, and leverage collective strength to achieve the 2026 objectives. Grounded in governance innovations and a clear development direction, HHIT is step-by-step asserting its position as a modern, green, smart, and sustainable container terminal that meets international standards.
