Strengthening Strategic Cooperation in Maritime and Logistics Sector

The working visit by A.P. Moller - Maersk’s leadership further reaffirms the increasingly close partnership between the two corporations in seaports, logistics, and supply chain infrastructure.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tran Van Ky, Chairman of Hateco Group, expressed his delight in welcoming the senior leadership of A.P. Moller - Maersk to HHIT. He emphasized that Berths No. 5 and No. 6 at Lach Huyen Port serve as a prime testament to the effective cooperation between the two groups.

In the first year of operation, the throughput at Berths No. 5 and No. 6 exceeded 800,000 TEUs. The target for 2026 is set at 1.4 million TEUs, representing an increase of over 70% compared to 2025. The growth momentum is projected to continue into 2027 with an expected increase of 40% to 50%, equivalent to a throughput of 1.8 to 2 million TEUs.

To meet growing operational demands and enhance the capacity to handle ultra-large vessels, the Chairman of Hateco Group proposed that both parties coordinate with Vietnamese authorities to study and invest in Turning Basin No. 2 in front of Berths No. 5 and No. 6 at Lach Huyen. This will create favorable conditions for accommodating mega container ships. Concurrently, both sides will continue to explore and discuss cooperation opportunities for potential projects in infrastructure, logistics, and supply chains, aiming to expand a modern logistics ecosystem and elevate Vietnam’s international connectivity.

Representing A.P. Moller - Maersk, Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla highly appreciated Hateco’s execution capacity, determination, discipline, commitment, professionalism, and long-term development vision. He affirmed that Hateco Port is progressively becoming a model for modern deep-water ports in Vietnam.

The A.P. Moller - Maersk Group also highlighted that the bilateral partnership is continually expanding through strategic projects, including Hateco Haiphong International Container Terminal (HHIT), Lien Chieu Port in Da Nang, as well as Giang Bien inland waterway port in Hanoi. According to him, combining Maersk/APM Terminals’ global operational expertise with Hateco’s localized execution capabilities will establish a solid foundation for both sides to develop a modern logistics ecosystem, thereby strengthening Vietnam’s role in the global supply chain.
